Meet our Founder
Emmie Johnston’s journey began when she was diagnosed with Dyslexia in the fifth grade. She was living in fear and isolation throughout middle school. When she began high school she was screened again to find out she also had Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, and ADHD. The lack of support and understanding in her education prompted her to create the S.H.I.E.L.D. initiative. With the mission to "Stop the Stigma" associated with Learning Disabilities, Emmie is dedicated to empowering individuals to embrace their learning differences and reach their full potential. Join her in making a difference, one shield at a time.
Impact
Emmie has accomplished remarkable feats in her advocacy for learning differences. She's engaged with over 1,000 student’s and other adult groups, partnered with the Phillips Fundamental Learning Center, and addressed various groups and initiatives, including the impactful "A Walk In Their Shoes." Her fundraising efforts have yielded over $10,000, supporting vital causes. Emmie's unwavering dedication to "Stop the Stigma" surrounding learning disabilities has made her a beacon of hope and inspiration.
